Blown Fuse Indicator

Fuse is an important component in electrical and electronic circuits. It provides protection to the circuit by eliminating excess current flow through the circuit. The circuit, we are going to make indicates the status of fuse. Red LED indicates the fuse is blown and Green LED indicates the fuse is working.

    Components Required

    • 1N4148 Diode
    • Red LED
    • Green LED
    • Fuse
    • 1K ohm Resistor

    Circuit Diagram

    Blown Fuse Circuit Working

If you observe the circuit, the indicator is connected parallel to the fuse. This indicator consists of two branches. The first branch (branch 1) consists of 1N4148 diode and Red LED. The second branch (branch 2) consists only Green LED. If you analyse the resistance of two branches, the resistance of branch 1 is more than resistance of branch 2. It mean the voltage drop of branch 1 is more than branch 2.

When the fuse is working the current flows through fuse and then branch 2, as the branch 2 offers low resistance and low voltage drop-down and glows Green LED. When the fuse is blown, it opens the circuit and offers high resistance than the branch 1. Then the current starts flowing in branch 1 and glows Red LED.
